I Have Dressed Women for 22 Summers. The Moana Is the Dress I Am Proudest Of, and the One I Reach For Myself.
On the six things I insisted on when we made the Moana collection, how it compares to the summer dresses you have been buying, and why it is now clearing as we move online.
I am Mel, and I started Portsea Boutique 22 years ago, in a small shop near the water in Portsea. In all that time I have chosen a great many summer dresses. The Moana is the one I am proudest of.
It is the one I reach for myself on the warmest days. It is the one women ask each other about. And of everything we are clearing as we close the Portsea shop and move online, it is the dress I most wanted to write to you about.
I should tell you why. For years I watched the same thing happen to women our age. The summer dresses made for us fell into two piles. I never accepted that a woman had to choose between the two. The Moana is my answer, and I insisted on six things when we made it.

Why the Moana is clearing now
We are closing the Portsea shop and moving Portsea Boutique online, so the whole summer collection is clearing, the Moana with it. Every dress in the Moana collection is now A$79.95, from A$319.95, and when you take more than one the saving stacks further, up to 30 percent.
I will be plain about it. At this price we are barely breaking even. I am telling you because it is true, and because once we hand back the keys at the end of the season, this price goes with the shop. There is no plan to bring it back.
If twenty two years of running this little shop have taught me anything, it is that a woman who tries the Moana once usually comes back for a second print.
I started with one dress because I wasn't sure what would suit me. After wearing it a few times, I came back for another style. Both have become things I actually reach for, rather than keep for best.
